General comments:

I love Joydrop and recommend them for anyone who likes the rockier side of ecto and especially for fans of Garbage. (kamesan@geocities.com)

The band I'd compare them to most is Garbage, but with some softer material. (Neile)

Comments about live performance:

I finally saw Joydrop last night. Anyway they didn't disappoint. They put a loud but extremely fun show. I was surprised though that after all this time since their first album, and all this touring, that they're still doing the album songs...they only did one non-album song all night. They must be getting so sick of it by now! Anyways their show entrancing, what with the light show and vocal effects and so on. Plus Tara Sloane is quite an intoxicating presence on the stage. Wow. "Beautiful" was a highlight and a crowd favourite of course; Tara commented on how it is "eternal", being the only single out despite being out for 2-3 years. "Spiders" is apparently the next single, and that was fun too but I was terribly disappointed that they didn't do my favourite song, "If I Forget." (10/99, kamesan@geocities.com)

Comments:

There are definitely some very Garbage moments on the CD. Like in the radio single "Beautiful" there's a part where Tara Sloane's vocals are distorted, the instrumentation gets really heavy and you could swear you were listening to Shirley Manson and Garbage. About half of the songs on the CD, particularly the more rocking songs, sound Garbage-y to me, including two of my favourite songs on the CD, "If I Forget" and "No one".
Otherwise I'm finding it difficult to pin it down. I think they do very well on the rocking numbers, but a couple of the quieter ones are very good too. (kamesan@geocities.com)

joydrop's metasexual will be of interest to those here who like very rock sounds, though there are some softer tunes on it. There's one really loud tune that actually at first put me off them (it can take me a lo-o-o-o-ong time to break through the wall of sound thing, particularly as I rarely have time to do nothing but listen to music, and while I'm doing something else loud music I'm not familiar with can get on my nerves) but anyway, I started really liking the rest of the album. Mostly Garbage-like but with some mellower songs. (Neile)
