The Ectophiles' Guide entry for Rasputina, Melora Creager's band

Comparisons:

Rasputina

Covers/own material:

Own, occasional covers

General comments:

The sound is very like Rasputina's, but perhaps a little more stripped down with the focus on vocals and the cello even more prominent. They even say, on MySpace and on its [now defunct] CDBaby page: "How, exactly, is this different from Rasputina? It hardly is, ha ha!" True. (Neile)

Recommended first album:

Perplexions (2006) is her only known solo recording to date

Ecto priority:

Highly recommended for Rasputina fans and fans of odd music

Group members:

Melora Creager—cello, dulcimer, vocals, drums, programming

Guest artists:

Jonathon TeBeest—piano on one track

Comments:

This is a seven-track CD with original Melora Creager songs and one Tom Petty cover, "American Girl". The overall impression is very Rasputina, and it even has one of Melora Creager's trademark spoken-word-with-music-pieces, "Border Village" (and another, "Krakatowa" with a brief passage of same). If you like Rasputina you'll like this, because there basically isn't any difference. Great, uniquely Melora Creager music, it's just that this one has her name on the cover rather than her band's.
